Needle Holders: Recording Handle, Lock and Jaw Details for Repeat Orders

Keep the handle, catch and jaw specification connected to your accepted reference when preparing a needle-holder repeat order.

A needle-holder order can look complete when it contains a pattern name and length, yet leave the handle, locking mechanism and jaw surface unresolved. For a replacement order, those missing details can make it difficult to compare a proposed item with the reference already held by the receiving organization. Treat the pattern name as the beginning of the specification, then record the exact configuration being requested.

This guide supports purchasing enquiries within the SurgiPeak needle-holder collection. It does not select an instrument for a clinical task or describe how to operate it.

Record the handle and locking arrangement

Ask for a photograph of the whole instrument and a separate view of the handle or catch. Record whether the quoted item has finger rings, a round handle or another stated arrangement, and whether it includes a locking feature. Do not infer a catch from a product-family name. The catalogue includes a Barraquer round-handle listing with catch; retain that full description when requesting its exact supplied specification.

An independent manufacturer example illustrates why separate fields help. Sklar item 20-2070T identifies a finger-ring handle with ratchet in its product details. That is a specification for that Sklar item only. It does not establish the mechanism, compatibility or performance of a SurgiPeak product with a similar name.

Describe the jaws without relying on a distant photograph

A full-length image may show the outline while leaving the jaw surface unclear. Request a close-up and written description of the quoted jaw pattern. Useful questions concern whether a surface is smooth or serrated, whether a groove is specified, and whether a working-end shape is stated separately. Record the supplier's actual answer rather than filling a blank from another catalogue.

The Sklar example lists a cross-serrated working surface with a groove. KLS Martin item 20-396-20-07 separately identifies a fenestrated working end and a slim instrument shape. These are examples of information that manufacturers may provide in distinct catalogue fields; they are not evidence that those two products, or a similarly named SurgiPeak listing, are interchangeable.

Keep material and insert questions separate

A request for a titanium instrument, a TC-labelled model or a particular finish should remain explicit in the order line. Ask which material description applies to the body and which applies to any jaw insert. Handle colour or an image highlight is not a substitute for a written material specification.

For example, the Castroviejo 14 cm fine-point TC straight listing and Titanium Barraquer listing provide different starting references. Confirm the exact quoted item and its construction. A product label alone does not establish a material grade, coating, certification or durability claim.

Use a reference record for repeat orders

Keep the accepted reference together with the quotation so a later order does not lose its configuration. A compact record can include:

  • Full listing reference, agreed pattern and nominal overall length.
  • Straight or curved configuration and any stated working-end shape.
  • Handle style and the presence or absence of the agreed catch or locking arrangement.
  • Written jaw-surface description and dated close-up photograph.
  • Confirmed body and insert material descriptions, quantity and packaging.
  • Outstanding questions and the supplier response that resolved them.

If the receiving team supplies its own reference photograph, label it as the buyer's reference and request written confirmation of differences. Do not present it as a photograph of the proposed supplied item. Keep any requested substitution visible in the order record instead of silently carrying forward the previous description.

Confirm dimensions and applicable documents

Keep overall length separate from jaw dimensions. If a jaw measurement matters to the enquiry, state the measurement requested and ask the supplier to identify its endpoints. See our dimensions guide for recording millimetres, inches and measurement definitions.

Ask for applicable instructions and the supply condition for the exact item. Follow the receiving organization's review process; this guide supplies no cleaning, sterilization or surgical-use instructions. Our documentation checklist helps keep the quoted instrument and its documents connected. Send your reference list and unresolved configuration questions before confirming the order.

Sources and date context

This evergreen purchasing guide was published on 12 October 2026. It is not a new product announcement. Primary catalogue pages checked on 11 October 2026: KLS Martin 20-396-20-07 and Sklar 20-2070T. The order-record suggestions are SurgiPeak editorial recommendations. Other manufacturers' dimensions and configurations are not specifications for SurgiPeak instruments.
